Art Classes

Each class will each focus on a different artist (or two artists for Friday classes). We will learn about the artist and the time in which he or she lived, then explore that artist's techniques with hands-on projects. Students can sign up for one class, the whole semester or pick and choose.

Class minimum 2 / maximum 4. Ages 6 - 10.
$15 per 90 minute class on Mondays and Wednesdays. $30 per 3 hour class on Fridays.

Mondays, 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm
Wednesdays, 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm
Fridays, 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm [snacks provided mid-way through class time. Please pack your child's snacks if there are allergies or intolerances.]

Beginning Music

This class is a continuation of my fall and winter beginning music class.  The class series will cover rhythm, tempo, dynamics, melody, harmony, basic music notation and more. This class is for the beginning student with little to no knowledge of music theory. A student does  not have to have taken my previous classes to be able to join this class since different music concepts will be taught and I build on and revisit areas of music through different ways of learning each semester.

Class minimum 3 / maximum 6. $60 for four (4) 90 minute lessons.

Ages 6 - 10 on Tuesdays, Mar 31, Apr, 14, Apr 28 & May 12 from 2:30 to 4:00.

A makeup class will be on May 19 in the event we have to cancel a session.

Private Piano Lessons are available for beginning students, ages 5 and up.  $15 per 25 minute lesson plus the cost of the book(s), which range from $9 - $12 depending on level. Please email or call to find out what dates/times are available for private piano lessons. Weekly classes are not required. We can set up a schedule that works for your family and your budget.

About the Teacher

HeatherAnne Norbury has been making music her whole life, with lessons in piano starting at age 5 and voice at age 12. She performed classical music in high school and college, all while fronting a heavy metal band on the weekends. She's been in a dance/party band and then semi-acoustic pop band over the last 9 years. Art has also been an integral part of her life. She is mostly self-taught in art with a little classical training. HeatherAnne has been teaching homeschool coop art classes for the last two years. While art and music are her passion, her undergraduate degree is in political science and business with a law degree as well.

HeatherAnne is the homeschooling mom to an 11 year old son and 7 year old daughter. She also manages her husband's bankruptcy law practice (mostly from home at night after the kids are in bed). She has coached girls' artistic gymnastics at Xtreme Gymnastics and Trampoline for the last three years, was the summer camp director at her church for 5 years and has worked with kids in various other class settings for many years. She volunteers her time to Downtown Lee's Summit Main Street as the Music in the Park coordinator and the chair of the Downtown Days entertainment committee.

Age Limits
Age limits on classes are guidelines. You know your children better than I do. If you have a particularly mature younger child or an older child who doesn't mind taking a class full of younger kids, then by all means please enroll them. Likewise, if your child can't sit still for 90 minutes, please be mindful of the small class size and other kids who do want to sit and focus when choosing courses for your child.

Multiple Child Discount
I offer a discount of 25% off your total semester bill if you sign up more than one child. Children must live in the same household and must be siblings, half-siblings or step-siblings to qualify. The discount can be applied across multiple classes. In other words, the children do not have to be attending the same classes. There is no multi-child discount for holiday gift workshops.

Payment Policy
After using Signup Genius to select the classes, you will receive an invoice by email. Payment can be made by mailing a check or using Paypal or Google Wallet. [Cash is also acceptable if you will be seeing HeatherAnne before the payment deadline. Don't mail cash though.] Due to the limited spaces available in each class, payment must be received within ten days of invoice receipt unless other arrangements have been made. If payment is not received by the due date or agreed alternate time frame, the student will be disenrolled from the class.

Location
Classes are held in a home studio in Lee's Summit, MO near Independence Avenue and Mulberry Street. The street address will be sent with the invoice for classes. Parents are welcome to wait or drop off and run errands. Wifi & coffee are available for parents waiting. We do have two dogs (both hypoallergenic breeds), two cats and two (caged) pet rats. If your child is afraid of animals, please alert me before class so I can keep them outside or kenneled.

Childcare
Childcare is available for younger siblings by my 11yo son. $3 per child per 90 minute class session and $10 per child for Friday night classes. Limit of 2 children in childcare at one time. Please check availability as soon as possible as my son won't always be available.

Cancellation Policy
HeatherAnne reserves the right to cancel any program if minimum enrollment is not reached, in which case full refunds will be made to the participants. In the event of unforeseen circumstances causing a cancellation (sickness, etc.), efforts will be made to schedule a makeup class that works for all enrolled students. If that isn't possible, a full refund will be made. Partial refunds will be issued to participants who cancel a minimum of 14 days prior to a single session class or the first class in a series class. A processing fee of $5 may be kept on all cancellations initiated by the participants.

Makeup Classes
Series classes, such as Beginning Music Theory, will have one scheduled makeup the week after the series is over in the event of inclement weather or other unforeseen circumstances causing a cancellation of one of the sessions. See the cancellation policy regarding stand alone class makeups in the event the whole session must be canceled. In the event a student must miss a stand alone class, makeups are generally not available. However, if another art class has an opening in the next 3 weeks, that student may transfer to another art class to take a makeup.

Returned Checks
Parents will be responsible for any bank fees incurred if checks are returned for insufficient funds.

Absence And Illness
HeatherAnne appreciates notice if your student must miss class for any reason.  Please alert her if your student will be absent by calling (816) 246-0007.
If your child is ill, contagious and/or running a fever, please DO NOT bring him/her to class.
HeatherAnne cannot dispense medication to your child.
If your child has a condition which necessitates carrying and/or self-administering medication during class time, please share all pertinent information with HeatherAnne prior to the first day of class.
